Title I provides financial assistance to local agencies for children from low income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. In Fort Smith, this Title I program is a federal program offered through Fort Smith Public Schools that provides supplemental education service so that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. This program is designed to help children improve their proficiency in literacy and/or mathematics. Caroline Neel is the Supervisor of Curriculum and Federal Programs for FSPS.
All private schools in the FSPS Title I programs are provided intervention services for eligible students. Immaculate Conception is currently the only private school in Fort Smith with a full-time Title I interventionist, and it is currently the only Catholic school in Arkansas to have a full-time Title I interventionist. Our I.C. Title I interventionist, Heather Dobbins, serves nearly 70 I.C. students (on-site and virtually) every day!
