Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures Reminders!

Dec 6, 2018

There are very-well established practices for “drop-off” of students in the morning and “pick-up” in the afternoon.  I would be very happy to explain the reasons for any of them that you question and it is appreciated, even if you don’t understand, that you follow the procedures.  Each one has been made for the safety of our students and to keep the traffic flowing in an orderly manner.  Please keep the safety and convenience of other parents in mind, not just what is better for the individual.

Morning Drop-Off:
  • Vehicles are NOT to stop on So. B and allow students to exit.  As soon as a car does this, several other cars must stop behind that vehicle and this causes delays.

  • Before 7:45, turn onto So. 14th and proceed at least 4-car lengths along sidewalk before stopping to unload children.  Even if you see no other vehicles behind you, that is very likely to change within seconds!

  • Adults are NOT to exit vehicle on So. B to escort their child from the vehicle or into the school building.

  • 7:45- 8:00: All vehicles are to proceed to Stop sign on So. A as far as cars proceeding you will allow.  Please follow the directions of staff.

  • DO NOT make left-hand turns from So. “B” northbound onto So. 14th Street, or from So. 14th Street eastbound onto So. “B” Street.  Directing traffic is difficult enough and “turning left” onto So. 14th or So. B Street is very difficult for our staff to handle.

  • God bless all of you who use turn signals!  It is very difficult in the morning to determine who is turning and what vehicles are traveling through the intersection to Towson without them!

Afternoon Pick-up.  Actually, this goes very well; just a few reminders!

  • Please use crosswalks!  There have been several times this year that I have motioned traffic to proceed only to have adults and students run across the street.  Nothing is so urgent that the safety of our children should be risked!
