Children and their families donated candy, socks, snacks, pens, paper, books, magazines and other items needed by men and women serving in the armed forces and stationed away from home. Many of the materials are used as treats for boys and girls where the soldiers are working, and others are special indulgences for themselves to remind them that we are thinking and praying for them back in the USA. One of the soldiers who received a care package from the children wrote to tell us his thoughts and tell the children about his mission. We are so thankful for our soldiers and are grateful for their service. Thank you, SSG Kleck (cousin of Shelby and Caden Ralston), for letting us know how you are doing.
Friends,
I hope this letter finds you all doing well. I would like to send my thanks and appreciation to you all for taking time to send me cards and candy, although I may have to visit the dentist when I get back from Afghanistan due to eating too many sweets. I hope you all enjoyed your visit to Crystal Palace. I know several of you were looking forward to going skating. It has been several years since I have had the opportunity to go skating, so I imagine I would be a little rusty.
I would like to give you all a brief description of my unit's mission in Afghanistan. We are responsible for assisting the Afghanis with training the Afghanistan army. We will help them to raise their military forces to 134,000 by 2011 so that they will be able to sustain themselves and US forces will be able to withdraw from Afghanistan and return home to our families.
Once again, thank you all for your kindness and generosity. I greatly appreciate everything you sent me. It was very thoughtful.
Sincerely your friend,
SSG Heath Kleck
