IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL
223 SOUTH 14TH STREET
FORT SMITH, AR 72901
May 6, 2008
Dear Parents,
May is here, the last month of the school year! It is a busy one filled with many happenings beginning last weekend with our Spring Festival. The children were so excited last week and have told me how much fun they had!
Our sixth graders will soon be graduating from our school. They will begin another important stage in their life- junior high and adolescence. I thank you, their parents, for the gift of your children these past years and for allowing me to be a part in their growth. I thank the sixth graders for blessing me with their spirit for life and their generous hearts. It is difficult to let go of such a special group of young men and women. I wish them many future successes and will always keep them close to my heart!
Once again, I sincerely thank you, your children, and our staff for a successful year! This is my twenty-second year as principal and each one is different with its own challenges and rewards. None of us could do this awesome work without each other. It truly takes “a village” to raise a child!
God bless you,
Sharon Blentlinger
Spring Festival
What a great weekend we had for Festival! Once again, we were blessed with sunny weather and great crowds!
A tremendous thank you to the Festival chairs, Jason and Michelle Wewers, and their core committee. Unless a person has worked on the core committee, one can not imagine the number of hours these families give to make our Festival a success. A lot of thanks also go to many people who served in special capacities. The Festival could not be a success without the Men’s Club, all the parish organizations, school families, and individuals who worked so hard. Final numbers are not yet in but it looks like we did great!
Last Week of School
Sixth grade graduation will be held during a special Mass on Wednesday evening, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the church. A reception for graduates and their families will follow in the Msgr. Galvin Parish Center. Wednesday will be our sixth grade students last day.
Our Field Day will be on Thursday, May 22. A chair is needed for this event. Students may wear casual clothes appropriate for outside games. Our Used Book Exchange will be held in the afternoon.
Our last day of school is Friday, May 23. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am and dismissal will be at 1:30 pm. There will be no ASC but vans will run their regular routes.
Report cards, class assignments, and the final billing containing ASC, cafeteria, and van usage charges will be mailed late the week of May 25 to all families who are current on fees through May. These fees will be deducted in June. The check for your child’s used textbooks will also be enclosed in this mailing.
Tuition for 2008- 2009
Tuition rates for 2008- 2009 will soon be published. The school budget for 2008- 2009 must still be approved by the I.C. Parish Council. Financial aid forms will be sent to you early in June if you indicated a need on the enrollment form. Please contact the school office if you do not receive one by the middle of June.
Summer Program
Many of you have reserved places for your children in our summer program. Thank you! Summer packets will be mailed next week. Our program will begin on Monday, June 2. Lots of fun has been planned!
A summer program is also being planned for preschool. Please call the school office if you are interested in this program.
Yearbook
Be sure to get those yearbook pictures turned in. Mary Ann Watts, yearbook chair, will take them in any format: photo paper, CD, or you can email them to her at m-watts@sbcglobal.net.
Internet Safety
Internet safety for our children is a concern for us as parents and as educators. There are children at our school who have accounts on various websites such as Facebook, Myspace, and other sites as well as videos on Utube. An Internet Safety program is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, at 10:00 am in the auditorium for students in grades 4- 6 in an effort to make our students aware of how to be safe and protect themselves as well as some of the dangers of these websites. Parents are welcome to attend!
Used Books and Tool Boxes
A form requesting information concerning used books was sent in Tuesday folders several weeks ago with a return date of Tuesday, April 22. A note will be in next Tuesday folders with information about the textbook exchange. Money for used textbooks is due no later than Friday, May 16.
Forms for Tool Boxes are in today’s folders. This is optional for families but if you don’t enjoy shopping at Wal-Mart in July, it is a great way to purchase your child’s school supplies for next year with no fuss! Prices are extremely competitive. Please return this by the due date if you want your child’s school supplies purchased for you. Extra Tool Boxes will not be purchased.
Thank You!
I want to especially thank my PTO board who provided invaluable support and service to me and our school. PTO Officers for 2007- 2008 were Johnetta Underwood, president; Cathie Porter, president-elect; Kathy Long, treasurer; and Carol Bedford, secretary.
Words can’t express my gratitude for all they have given me and our school community. It is such a pleasure for me to work so closely with such talented and generous parents.
PTO News
For my last letter as PTO President I want to say a big THANK YOU to all the committee chairs, volunteers, and parents that make this school run like a finely tuned machine. I am amazed at the milestones that IC accomplishes just by each person doing his/her part. This is truly an amazing institution! Be sure to thank our teachers as well for the time and attention they give our children. I also want to say how much I appreciate the PTO Officers: Cathie Porter, Kathy Long, and Carol Bedford.
Have a great summer!
Johnetta Underwood
